Speech Summary
Major countries such as the United States are extending stock market trading hours or pursuing 24-hour trading. Extending trading hours can not only improve convenience for retail investors but also enhance access for global investors, thereby attracting new liquidity and strengthening the price discovery function of the market. If 24-hour trading becomes the new normal, global competition for liquidity is expected to intensify. Therefore, Korea also needs to extend its stock market trading hours beyond the current level, and in the medium to long term, support 24-hour trading to strengthen global competitiveness. At the same time, measures must be taken to reinforce system stability and investor protection in order to address potential unintended consequences of extended trading hours.
